Privacy Policy for Jamsoft Inc.
Last Updated: May 9, 2026
Jamsoft Inc. (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how Study.Buddy, our iOS application available on the Apple App Store, handles information.
Study.Buddy is designed as a study tool that helps users scan, import, review, and generate study materials such as summaries, flashcards, vocabulary cards, quizzes, courses, spaced-review cards, and tutor sessions.
Overview
Study.Buddy does not require you to create an account with Jamsoft Inc. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, or other account profile information in order to use the app.
Most study content is stored locally on your device. Some optional features use Apple or Google/Firebase services, as described below.
Information You Create or Provide in the App
When you use Study.Buddy, you may choose to provide or create study-related content, including:
Text you type or paste into the app
Text, notes, textbook pages, images, or documents you import
Photos or scanned pages you select or capture
OCR text extracted from scans or imported images
Generated study summaries, flashcards, vocabulary cards, quizzes, and saved study sets
Course names, subject names, exam dates, review progress, and spaced-repetition history
Tutor Mode messages and problem context, if you use Tutor Mode
This information is used to provide the app’s study features.
Local Storage on Your Device
Study.Buddy stores your study library locally on your device. This may include study sessions, captures, saved sets, folders/courses, flashcard review history, topic performance, imported images, OCR text, and app preferences.
The app also stores certain settings locally, such as appearance preference, reminder settings, retention settings, flashcard count preference, auto-save preference, and Pro/free usage counters.
Study.Buddy may store a local install identifier in the iOS Keychain. This is used for app functionality and is stored on your device.
iCloud
The current version of Study.Buddy is primarily local-device storage. The app does not currently use iCloud or CloudKit as its main sync system for study-library data.
If a future version adds iCloud sync, that syncing will be handled through Apple’s iCloud services and will be described in an updated Privacy Policy.
Camera, Photos, and File Imports
Study.Buddy may request camera access so you can scan textbook pages or study material.
You may also choose to import selected photos, images, PDF files, or text files. The app only processes the files, photos, or documents you choose to provide.
Imported files and scanned images are used to extract text, prepare study materials, and save study content in your local app library.
OCR and On-Device Processing
Study.Buddy uses Apple-provided device capabilities, such as Vision/OCR and Apple Intelligence/Foundation Models where available, to process study material.
OCR and many study-generation features are designed to run on device when supported by your device and iOS version.
If Apple Intelligence is unavailable, Study.Buddy may use local fallback logic to help create study materials from your text.
Tutor Mode and Google/Firebase AI Services
Study.Buddy includes a Tutor Mode that may use Google Gemini through Firebase AI Logic.
When you use Tutor Mode, the app may send the relevant problem text, OCR text, selected image content, subject, and recent tutor conversation context to Google/Firebase so the AI tutor can generate a response.
Firebase Remote Config may be used to determine which Gemini model is enabled for Tutor Mode. Firebase App Check may be used to help protect the app and Firebase services from abuse. These services may process technical information such as app identifiers, device attestation tokens, and service request metadata.
Tutor Mode is optional. If you do not use Tutor Mode, your tutor messages and problem images are not sent to Gemini for that feature.
Google/Firebase processing is subject to Google’s and Firebase’s applicable terms and privacy practices.
Subscriptions and Purchases
Study.Buddy offers Pro subscription options through Apple’s StoreKit and the App Store.
Purchases, billing, payment details, refunds, and subscription management are handled by Apple. Jamsoft Inc. does not receive or store your payment card information.
The app may check your App Store subscription entitlement, product identifiers, transaction status, and original app purchase/download date to determine whether Pro features are available or whether you qualify for early-supporter Pro access.
Notifications
If you enable reminders, Study.Buddy may request permission to send local notifications.
Notifications may include reminders for due review cards or upcoming exam dates you entered in the app. Notification scheduling is handled through Apple’s notification system on your device.
You can disable notifications at any time in the app settings or in iOS Settings.
Spotlight Search
Study.Buddy may index certain study-session information locally using Apple’s Core Spotlight so you can find your own study content through iOS search.
This indexing is handled on your device through Apple’s system services.
Analytics, Advertising, and Tracking
Study.Buddy does not use third-party advertising.
Study.Buddy does not use third-party analytics services such as Firebase Analytics, and the app’s Firebase configuration has analytics disabled.
The app may write limited local diagnostic events to Apple’s system logging tools to help with troubleshooting, such as scan import counts, generation events, reminder sync events, or review actions. These logs are not used for advertising or tracking. If you choose to share diagnostics with Apple or Jamsoft Inc., some local diagnostic log information may be included.
Study.Buddy does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.
Data Sharing
Jamsoft Inc. does not sell your personal information.
We do not share your study library with advertisers.
Your information may be processed by third-party platform services only when needed to provide app functionality, including:
Apple services for App Store purchases, StoreKit subscriptions, camera/photo/file access, notifications, Spotlight indexing, OCR, Apple Intelligence, and device-level storage
Google/Firebase services for optional Tutor Mode, Gemini AI responses, Remote Config, and App Check
Data Retention and Deletion
Study.Buddy stores your study content locally until you delete it or reset the app’s library.
The app includes retention settings that allow you to limit how many sessions are kept, how old sessions can be, and how long captures are retained.
You can also reset the app library from within the app, which removes saved sessions, captures, saved sets, folders/courses, review history, and related local study data from the device.
Deleting the app from your device may also remove locally stored app data, subject to iOS behavior and any device backup settings you control through Apple.
Children’s Privacy
Study.Buddy is intended for a general audience and may be used for educational purposes.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 or the equivalent minimum age in the relevant jurisdiction.
Because Study.Buddy does not require Jamsoft accounts, we generally do not know the age of individual users. Parents or guardians should review device settings, App Store settings, and any AI or online features before allowing a child to use the app.
Security
Study.Buddy is designed to keep most study data on your device. Apple platform security protects local app storage, Keychain items, and system permissions.
For Firebase-powered features, Study.Buddy uses Firebase App Check where supported to help protect service access.
No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, but we use platform-provided safeguards and limited data practices to reduce privacy risk.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the app, services, legal requirements, or privacy practices.
When we update this Privacy Policy, we will revise the “Last Updated” date above. Changes are effective when the updated Privacy Policy is posted.
